How can you prevent rust on a vehicle?

Key benifits & uses

Rust is a result of iron reacting with water & oxygen called oxidation. Salty water speeds up this process due to dissolved ions allowing electrons to move faster. Eating away at the metal rust causes a wide variety of problems but, importantly they can be prevented.

In order to prevent rust from occurring we need a protective barrier to stop oxidation. Paint, Oil or Greasing will provide a barrier but are damaging to the environment and need to be maintained. These often don’t last as they can be washed away or chipped off. Prolan Extreme is a blend of the properties Paint, Oil & Grease have while being safe to handle, biodegradable. A superior solution is a waterproof coating that sticks to the metal providing a moisture barrier that will not leach off.

How to Winterize a vehicle

The first step is to protect and seal the underside giving you peace of mind that your vehicle is not being damaged by the harsh salty road conditions.

Winter tires will provide greater grip and confidence when driving in dangerous conditions. A spare tire would be ideal if you have the space.

Keep some emergency supplies inside such as bottles of water and long lasting food for when a short journey becomes a long one.

Deep snow may mean you get stuck having a tow rope to help get you or a friend out of trouble will come in useful.

Most vehicles should have a first aid already but check that its there or get the basics if not.
